The olive orchard sits at the front of Soul Food Farm framing the entrance to our home. Planted almost 20 years ago this grove represents family, life and adventure. Along with my sister, our husbands and kids, our parents and uncle, we planted the olive grove as little whips one hot summer day. Then we cared for those baby trees and waited seven years for the first mature harvest. Each drop of golden olive oil is a reminder that family comes first.
The tradition at the farm is that now each year our friends and family come together to help harvest olives. The varieties, Frantoio, Leccino and Pendolino make up our small grove. We dry farm the trees and harvest the fruit by hand.
